Spilled coffee on my keyboard at 6 AM and learned a hard lesson about backups
I was at my desk in the kitchen last Tuesday, barely awake, and knocked a full mug right onto my laptop. The screen went fuzzy in about 10 seconds and then just died. I had been putting off my nightly cloud backup for like 3 weeks because it felt like a chore. Lost 4 project files that I had been editing for a client in Detroit. The repair shop quoted me $450 to replace the whole mainboard. Now I just set a daily reminder on my phone to hit backup before I even open my email. Anyone else have a sudden failure that cost them way more than they expected?

Nah, you didn't learn that lesson right. Cloud backups aren't backups, they're just sync.

Oh yeah @theas28, I heard someone say the cloud is just somebody else's computer.

Yeah I definitely used to just assume the cloud meant everything was saved automatically somewhere safe. But @theas28's point about backups vs sync makes a lot of sense now that I think about it.
