TIL that building stuff without a plan is actually way more fun, fight me
I've been skipping sketches for my wood carvings and just going with the grain, literally. It forces me to think on my feet and the results are never boring, lmao. How do you handle your creative projects?

Exactly! That's how you find your actual style, not just copy what you planned. All my best work came from fixing a weird mistake I never saw coming. It forces a real solution instead of a safe one.

Totally get that. Started doing the same with paintings, just slapping colors on and seeing where it takes me. Half the fun is fixing the "happy accidents" later.

Heard a painter say the best work often comes from not overthinking it first, which totally fits what you're doing @nelson.seth. They argued the messy start gives you more interesting stuff to work with later. Makes the whole process feel less like a chore and more like solving a cool puzzle.

Ever try that method and end up with a piece so weird you have to pretend it was on purpose? I once tried to just go for it with a clay mug and it looked like a sad potato. That's the funny part though, the messed up stuff teaches you way more than a perfect plan ever could. It turns the whole thing into play instead of work. Your wood carving approach sounds like the best way to keep from getting stuck in your own head.
