Ugh, been there. I once spent two hours on a client's books because I assumed a standard deduction rule applied, but their weird freelance income changed everything. Now I force myself to ask three clarifying questions before I even open the spreadsheet.

Ever notice how this happens with directions too? Someone will leave out one turn and suddenly you're three towns over trying to figure out where it all went wrong.
