Warning: My simple 'ask me anything' box took two full days to figure out
I set up a little box at a local craft fair last weekend for people to drop in questions, thinking it would be a fun way to chat. I used a basic cardboard box with a slot cut in the top. The first day, nobody put anything in it. I thought maybe the slot was too small, so I made it bigger. Still nothing. I finally asked a friend to try it, and she pointed out I had taped a sign over the slot that said 'Pull' instead of 'Push'. I had put it on backwards. I spent the whole second day of the fair just taking the sign off and putting it back on the right way, feeling pretty silly. Has anyone else messed up something this simple in a public spot?

That's the kind of mistake that sticks with you. You'll triple-check every sign you tape up from now on. At least it's a funny story.

Oh man, this reminds me of my buddy at his old retail job. He put a huge "STORE CLOSING" banner in the front window, but he hung it totally crooked, like one side was a foot lower. They left it up for a week because the manager thought it was funny. He said he got paranoid about hanging anything straight after that, even pictures at home.

Actually, I don't think the sign being backwards was the whole problem. Your friend probably helped you figure that out, but people also just don't always notice small signs on a box, especially at a busy fair. Cardboard boxes with slots can also look a bit too much like a trash bin or donation drop, so you might have gotten more questions if it was a nicer box with a clear label right on the front.
