Was walking through the botanical gardens in Atlanta and saw a sign that said 'Please do not water the cacti'

There was a full watering can just sitting right next to it, which made the whole thing look pretty silly. Has anyone else seen a rule posted right next to the thing that breaks it?

That watering can was basically an invitation! I've moved stuff like that away from the sign before, just to avoid the confusion. Sometimes you have to help the rules make sense.

Last summer at the community garden, we moved the spare pots and it just made people pile their stuff in the walkway instead. Moving things can totally backfire by creating a worse mess somewhere else. The watering can by the sign is annoying, but at least it's contained to one spot. Constantly shifting stuff around just confuses everyone about where anything is supposed to go. Sometimes leaving a known problem alone is better than starting a new one.
