Appreciation post: how a $10 light pollution filter changed my moon shots

I've been taking photos of the moon from my backyard in Tulsa for about 2 years. Last month I finally bought a cheap light pollution filter for my telescope camera. The before and after difference was wild. Before the filter, my moon shots always had a weird orange glow around the edges from city streetlights. After I put the filter on, the craters and details popped way more clearly. Has anyone else tried a basic filter like that and seen a big change in their night sky photos?

That orange glow is exactly what my buddy Steve dealt with for months." He lives over by downtown and his moon shots looked like they were taken through a glass of Sunny D. Finally grabbed one of those cheap filters last fall and sent me a text at like 2am all excited because the craters actually showed up for the first time. He said it was like someone turned down the city noise and let the moon do its thing. Not bad for ten bucks and a quick screw on the lens.

Made the mistake of trying that filter on my phone camera once. Just got a blurry orange blob. @wader71
