Debated between a 1.25 inch and 2 inch eyepiece for my new telescope last month
I was shopping for a wide field eyepiece to look at the Andromeda Galaxy. The 1.25 inch was cheaper at $80 but the 2 inch gave a way bigger view. I went with the 2 inch because I figured I'd regret not getting the wider view. First clear night I aimed it at the Pleiades and my jaw dropped. The stars filled the entire view like I was floating in space. Anyone else wrestle with which size to grab?

Wider view always wins. Tossed and turned over that exact choice myself.

Back in 2018 I was all about narrow focus. Missed a lot of stuff that mattered. Saw my buddy lose a contract because he was so deep in the weeds he didn't notice the market shifting underneath him. That changed how I look at things. Now I try to step back first, see the whole field, then pick where to zoom in.

Respectfully, I see it different. Wider view can mean you're looking at too much stuff that doesn't matter. Sometimes you gotta zoom in on whats right in front of you and deal with that first. That exact choice comes down to what you actually need, not what looks better from a distance. Narrow focus helped me way more than trying to see everything at once.
