Drove two hours to a dark sky site only to have my camera battery die after three shots

Last Saturday, I packed up all my gear and drove out to Joshua Tree hoping to get some good shots of the Milky Way. I set everything up, got the focus perfect, and started my first long exposure. After about three pictures, my camera just shut off. I forgot to charge the spare battery, so the main one was at 20% when I left the house. I spent the rest of the night just looking at the stars with my eyes while my useless camera sat there. Has anyone else had a night totally ruined by a simple mistake like that? What's your backup plan to keep shooting?

Man, that's brutal. I actually keep a power bank and a USB-C cable in my bag now for my mirrorless camera. It won't charge it super fast, but it can usually trickle enough juice in during a break to get a few more shots out of a dead battery. Saved me once when I was out all night.

Felixlane's trick saved my phone after a long shoot too, but my old DSLR still needs those big clunky batteries.

Still got to see the stars though.
