I took my telescope to the desert near Sedona and the Milky Way looked like a painting
The sky was so dark I could see the dust lanes with my own eyes, not just in a photo. Has anyone else found a spot that made a familiar object look totally new?

The Atacama Desert showed me colors in the nebula I never knew were there.

How much of that color is always there but our normal skies just wash it out? I mean, the desert air is so clear and dark, it must be like turning up the brightness on the whole universe. Makes you wonder what else we're missing from our backyards.

Wow, what kind of telescope were you using out there?

My old astronomy professor always said those desert views trick your eyes. The dry air and lack of light can make things look way more vivid than they really are.
