I was convinced my friend's 'amazing' shot of the Andromeda Galaxy was just a blurry smudge until he showed me the unedited raw file and the exact 30-second exposure settings from his backyard in Tempe.

The sheer amount of faint detail in that single frame, which looked like nothing on my phone screen, completely flipped my view on what a basic DSLR on a tripod could actually capture... has anyone else had a photo that looked like junk at first glance turn out to be a goldmine with the right stretch?

My phone screen always lies about photos.

Ugh, tell me about it... I'll take a photo that looks amazing on my phone, all bright and clear. Then I send it to my laptop and it's just a dark, blurry mess. I look like a ghost who took a picture in a cave. Really makes me question my own eyes sometimes.
