My cousin in Denver said my deep space shots were just 'pretty dots' and it made me rethink everything.

We were looking at my Andromeda photo from October and he asked why I didn't just use a stock image, which made me wonder if the technical effort behind an astro photo matters as much as the final picture to most people.

My uncle said my eclipse shot was just a black circle.

Wait, he asked why you didn't just use a STOCK image? That's actually wild. The whole point is you took it yourself!

Oh GOOD GRIEF. So they just think photos are interchangeable like clip art? That's a whole different level of not getting it. Did you ask them if they would be okay with someone just grabbing a stock photo of their wedding instead of an actual shot from the ceremony? It's like they see a photo as just an OBJECT to fill a blank space instead of something personal. I bet they don't even take pictures on vacation, they just screenshot Google Maps.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I showed someone a picture of my dog. They asked if I got it from a pet food website. It's the same weird logic, like the only reason to have a picture is to fill a blank space. Some people just don't get that a photo can be about the story behind it, not just the thing you see.
