My grandpa pointed at Orion and said something I still think about every clear night
Two winters ago I was standing in my grandpa's driveway in Flagstaff, and he nodded up at Orion's belt and asked me why the middle star looked fuzzy. I told him it was just a blurry star and he said nope, go grab your binoculars. Turns out it wasn't a star at all, it was the Orion Nebula, and I'd been staring right past it my whole life. I've shot maybe 20 frames of it since with my little 50mm lens, and now I always zoom in before I assume anything is boring. What objects did you all miss for years because they didn't look like anything at first glance?
