My neighbor the pilot made me see moon photos totally different

Last week my neighbor Dave, who flies cargo planes, saw me editing a moon shot and said "you know that's just a rock lit by a big lamp, right?" He then showed me how he uses the moon's phase to check his watch on night flights. Has anyone else had their whole view of a photo shifted by someone's completely boring, practical take?
