My star tracker was fighting me for 6 months, then I read the manual
I spent 6 months in Flagstaff getting blurry 30 second exposures with my star tracker, thinking it was a declination balance problem. I kept adjusting the clutch tension and even bought a $60 counterweight kit, still trailing stars in every shot. Last week I found a forum post about polar alignment accuracy, so I actually checked the reticle in my polar scope, turns out it was misaligned by a tiny bit all along. Now I'm wondering, how many of you have had a 'wait, the gear was fine' moment like this, or do you think user error is always the main culprit?

Six months of troubleshooting and it was just the reticle being off a hair? That's brutal, I'd have thrown the whole thing in a lake by week three. I had a similar facepalm with my autoguider, turns out the cables were rubbing against the mount and causing tiny wiggles I blamed on everything else. But honestly, props to you for actually reading that manual, most of us just rage-buy accessories until we stumble on the real fix.
