Rant: My first clear photo of Jupiter's moons has me scratching my head

I stayed up way too late to get this, and I'm pretty stoked it turned out. But I can't figure out why the moons look like tiny blurry dots instead of points of light. I mean, with my basic telescope and phone, maybe that's it. Idk, is there a trick to making them sharper?

Sounds like your phone's camera is drunk.

Watched my friend struggle with the same thing last month. He used his old telescope and a phone mount, but all his Jupiter shots had fuzzy dots for moons. Turns out, his phone was ever so slightly out of focus, even though the planet looked sharp. He fiddled with the manual focus on his telescope for ages and finally got cleaner points. Said the atmosphere was shaky that night too, which didn't help. Sometimes it's just a mix of small things adding up.

Ever get it working right?

That bit about small things adding up is spot on. It's like how a few little mistakes can mess up any task, not just taking pics of planets.
