Warning on that $50 moon filter I bought
I dropped $50 on a 'high contrast' moon filter off Amazon for my 8 inch dob, thinking it would cut glare during the full moon. It turned my sharp lunar view into a blurry mess with weird color rings around craters. Anyone else get burned by cheap filters or have a brand that actually works?

Sounds like user error, not the filter's fault.

Oh man, I gotta jump in here! I've broken so many things in my life that I'm basically the poster child for user error. Last week I managed to snap a perfectly good shovel handle just trying to dig up a dandelion. So yeah, maybe it is user error, but if I can mess up a shovel that easily, then I bet a filter doesn't stand a chance against my clumsy hands. At least the filter probably doesn't have feelings, right?

Wait, isn't the whole point of a filter that it's supposed to handle normal use without breaking? This one's clearly got some issues @baker.christopher.

Is it really that big of a deal though? Like, yeah the filter broke, but it's not like the world is ending. People get way too worked up over little stuff like this. I mean, maybe it's a pain, but it's a filter. Not exactly life or death.
