Gas vs electric water heater in Decatur, the electric one wins

Replaced our 12 year old gas unit after the pilot kept dying, went with a hybrid electric heat pump model from a contractor in Decatur. My March power bill dropped $47 compared to last year, even with colder weather. Anyone else made the switch and seen real savings or did I just get lucky?

Guess the gas company was charging extra for the privilege of watching that pilot light die. Hybrids might actually pay for themselves before the next ice age hits.

Glad it worked out for you. That $47 a month is real money, especially with the cold we've been having. My neighbor did the same switch last fall and his bills have been steady all winter, while mine kept creeping up. It's frustrating to think about all those years I paid extra just to keep a flame burning. Seems like the hybrid route is worth a hard look for anyone else in this area.
