Heard a guy at the Ace on Ponce say his roof quote tripled because of one word, now I'm second guessing my own bids
So I was standing in line at the Ace Hardware on Ponce last Saturday grabbing some gutter sealant, and these two guys behind me were talking about a roof replacement. One of them said the first contractor quoted him $9,400 and the second one came back at $27,000 for what sounded like the same job. The difference was the first guy said "repair" on the paperwork and the second said "replacement," which apparently changed what the insurance adjuster would even look at. I've got a 22 year old roof on my place in Kirkwood and I've been putting off getting bids because I don't know what to ask for. It made me realize the word you use when you call somebody out might matter more than the price they give you. I called two roofers this week and both of them asked me what my adjuster already said, which I had no answer for. Has anybody here dealt with an insurance claim where the wording on the estimate actually flipped the whole thing?
