My backyard fence fell over during a storm last spring
I was inside watching TV when I heard this loud cracking sound around 7pm. Went outside and found about 20 feet of my wooden fence had blown down into the neighbor's yard. Called three companies the next morning and got quotes from $1,200 to $2,800 for a replacement. Has anyone here dealt with a fence falling over and had good luck with a specific contractor in the Decatur area?

You mentioned "three companies and quotes from $1,200 to $2,800" which is a huge spread. Did any of them explain why their price was so different from the others? I'm curious if the cheap guy was cutting corners or if the expensive one was just padding the bill. Also, did you check if your homeowners insurance covers storm damage like that? Might save you a chunk of change if you haven't filed a claim yet.

Insurance companies will nickel and dime you on a storm claim these days, then drop you for using it. I'd rather pay out of pocket for something this small than risk my premium going up for years.

@wesleyflores you're spot on about that price spread... I had almost the same thing happen when my shed roof got torn up a couple years back. The low quote guy showed up late, used the thinnest lumber I've ever seen, and was done in like two hours. The high quote explained they had to pull permits and use hurricane ties and everything. I went with the middle guy and it's held up fine through two more storms since then. Insurance is tricky though, I filed once for a window and my rate jumped so bad I regretted it.
