My neighbor saved me from a $2,000 plumbing mistake last weekend
I was about to dig up my front yard to fix a slow drain, thinking the main line was clogged. My neighbor Bob saw me with the shovel and asked what I was doing. He pointed out that my cleanout cap was cracked and letting in tree roots. We cleared the roots in 20 minutes with a cheap auger from Home Depot instead. Has anyone else had a neighbor spot something obvious you were about to overcomplicate?

Man I gotta say I'm not convinced this was actually that big of a deal. Digging up your front yard to fix a drain sounds like a lot of work sure but $2,000 seems high unless you were about to call some emergency plumber on a Sunday. Bob helped you out and that's cool but a cracked cleanout cap is like basic homeowner stuff you could have figured out with a quick YouTube video. People act like fixing anything yourself is rocket science these days.

60 bucks for the PVC coupling and glue at Lowe's, not $2,000, @jessem59.

It's funny how people think they can just watch a 10 minute video and suddenly they're a plumber lol. Videos never show you how to deal with roots wrapped around the pipe or getting the old glue off in 90 degree heat. This whole DIY culture thing has swung way too far into everyone acting like labor isn't worth paying for.
