Sump pump battery backups are overrated for most Atlanta homes
I keep seeing people in this group recommend them, but after 5 years in my 1950s bungalow in Decatur, a good generator has handled every storm better. My neighbor spent $400 on a backup that failed during the 3-day outage after that ice storm last February. Has anyone else skipped the battery and just gone generator instead?

Noticed that same pattern with backup plans in general (they only work in short bursts).

@stella22 makes a good point though, maybe the real issue is how we rely on anything with moving parts (mechanisms always fail eventually).

Honestly that stinks about your neighbor's backup. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine with his expensive battery system during the long freeze last year. A little generator just kept chugging along while he was stuck hauling buckets.
