That fancy gutter guard system I installed last fall? Total waste of money.

I put in LeafFilter gutters back in October on my house over in Decatur. Thought they were the best thing ever until I climbed up there after that big storm last week and found a solid layer of pine needles caked on top anyway. Now I gotta pay someone to clean them out just like I did before. Anyone else have better luck with the cheap foam inserts instead?

Geez, that's rough. I think the real problem is nobody talks about how those fancy gutter guards just turn your gutters into a bird buffet. The pine needles and leaves sit on top, get wet, and start composting right there on the mesh. Then you get bugs and moss growing in the muck, which is way worse than just cleaning out a normal gutter twice a year. At least with plain gutters you can see the problem and blast it out with a hose. The guards just hide the mess until it's a solid block of rotten plant matter.

Wait, composting right on the mesh? That's nasty - I never even thought about that part, but it makes total sense with all the wet pine needles just sitting there cooking.
