That nightmare week of water damage from a leaky HVAC pan

Three weeks ago my upstairs AC unit's drain pan rusted through and dumped about 15 gallons of water into my living room ceiling over a Monday to Thursday stretch. I didn't notice until the drywall started bubbling and a chunk fell right onto my couch around 2pm on Thursday. Water dripped for another two days while I waited for a roofer near Decatur to come out and patch the leak. Has anyone else dealt with hidden water damage from their AC unit?

Yeah "it's always the invisible stuff" for sure. My buddy Jake had a similar thing happen, his AC pan leaked in the attic and he didn't know for like two months. The water ran down inside a wall and rotted the floor joists behind his kitchen cabinets. He only found out when his wife went to grab a pot and the whole cabinet pulled away from the wall. The mold cleanup and replacing that flooring set him back like four grand.

Man, isn't it always the stuff you can't see that causes the biggest mess?

Truer words, it's always the invisible stuff that gets you.
