That time my attic fan tried to become a helicopter

I was up in the crawlspace around 2am after hearing a weird scraping noise, and the whole fan unit had basically vibrated itself loose from the joists and was swinging by the power cord. Had to call my neighbor who does HVAC to come hold it steady while I screwed it back in, and now I check the bolts every spring like a maniac. Anyone else have a ceiling fan or attic fan try to escape on its own?

Did you use lock washers or just regular ones? I swapped mine for locking bolts with threadlocker after my second scare and haven't had an issue since.

Man, I totally used to think regular washers were fine. @emmaking, you got me second guessing that now though. After hearing about your scare I'm definitely switching to locking bolts and threadlocker on my next project, it just makes sense for peace of mind.
