Took 3 years to realize I was paying for flood insurance on a condo that sits above the parking garage
I mean, I just assumed it was required like the HOA said, but when I finally read the elevation certificate last month, turns out my unit is 14 feet above the flood plain and I've been throwing $89 a month into a policy I literally cannot use, has anyone else blindly trusted their lender's insurance add-on without checking the actual flood map?

14 feet above the flood plain" and still paying for 3 years? That's rough. I did the same thing with my old place, just auto-renewed the policy without checking anything. Lesson learned, now I pull up the FEMA map before signing anything. $89 a month adds up fast, that's like a nice dinner every month you could've had.
