I used to spray my whole yard for mosquitoes every May, then a neighbor showed me his actual trap counts
For three summers I paid a company $75 a month to fog my backyard in Marietta, and I still could not sit out after 7pm without getting eaten alive. My neighbor across the street, who has been fighting mosquitoes here for a decade, finally showed me his logbook of weekly trap counts. He had 14 straight weeks of data showing the fog knocked numbers down for about 48 hours before they bounced right back, because the spray kills the adults and leaves every egg and larva in my birdbath and clogged gutters untouched. What actually moved the needle for him was dumping standing water every 5 days in July and August and treating the French drains with dunks. I switched in June and my trap count went from 30 mosquitoes a night to under 8 within three weeks, so I cancelled the spray contract. Has anyone here had luck with a mosquito dunk setup in a yard that backs up to woods, or does the tree line make it a losing fight no matter what?
