Can we talk about the guy who changed my mind on synthetic blend oil
I was at a parts counter in Portland last spring and this older mechanic overheard me arguing with the clerk about full synthetic vs blend. He pulled me aside and showed me his own truck's oil analysis results from 60,000 miles on blend that looked better than my 30,000 mile full synthetic sample. Has anyone else had a random stranger's real data make you rethink what you thought was solid advice?

So are you saying we should all start swapping oil advice with random dudes in parking lots now? Guess my mechanic's overpriced synthetic is getting traded for whatever blend the guy at the register recommends.

Back when I was younger, I had a buddy who swore by this cheap gas station oil he got on sale. He changed it every 2,500 miles like clockwork, and his old Chevy ran forever. Meanwhile, I was dumping $60 bottles of synthetic in my truck and still had a lifter tick at 100k. Sometimes it's less about what's in the jug and more about how hard you beat on the thing day to day.

Honestly 60k miles on a blend versus 30k on synthetic doesn't really prove much unless both trucks were driven exactly the same way. Could be he just takes better care of his rig than you do.
