Drove my buddy's '23 Mustang GT and my GTI felt faster around town

Everyone I know swears by the V8 Mustang for daily driving. I swapped cars with my neighbor Dave last Saturday for a few errands. His car has 450 horsepower and makes all the right noises, but I kept wanting more torque below 3000 RPM in normal traffic. My 2019 GTI with the DSG gets to 60 in under 6 seconds on a regular street, and I can actually use that power without breaking the law. The Mustang feels like it's waiting for a track day, while the GTI feels alive doing 35 mph. Has anyone else found a slower on paper car that actually feels quicker in real driving?

...and I mean, is it really that serious though? Like yeah, the Mustang has a bigger number on the spec sheet but who cares if you're not actually using it? 95% of driving is under 4000 RPM and below 60 mph. Of course a turbo 4 with a good gearbox is gonna feel zippy around town, that's literally what it's designed for. People act like horsepower wins every argument, but torque curve matters way more for daily driving. Your GTI is lighter too, which helps it feel faster even if it isn't. Honestly I think people just get caught up in the V8 hype and forget that fun is about how a car feels, not just what it can do on a closed course.

That point about torque curve being more important is exactly why lighter cars with turbos dominate stoplight to stoplight.
