Figured out why my auto transmission was slipping after 3 shop visits

My 2012 Ford Focus kept slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear no matter what the mechanics did. Turns out the problem wasn't the valve body or the clutch packs like they kept saying. I found a guy on a Focus forum in Cleveland who suggested checking the ground strap from the battery to the transmission case, and a simple $12 replacement fixed everything. Has anyone else dealt with a grounding issue causing transmission problems on these cars?

Damn, that's a hell of a find right there. I've seen this on the 2012-2016 Focus models more times than I can count now. Ground straps get corroded or the bolt just works loose from all the vibration, and the transmission computer starts getting flaky voltage. It won't show up on a standard diagnostic scan either because the ECU still thinks it's getting a signal, just not a clean one. Next time you're under there, check the ground point on the frame rail near the battery tray too I've found that one gets rusty even faster than the strap to the transmission case. A little dielectric grease on both connections will save you from this headache down the road.

Yeah that's classic modern car nonsense. Everything is overengineered to hell and back when half the time the fix is something stupid and cheap.
