I think engine oil change intervals are way too short for modern synthetic oils.
Three years ago I switched my Honda Civic to full synthetic and started changing it every 10,000 miles like the manual says, but last month a mechanic in Phoenix told me I was ruining my engine by going past 5,000 miles, so has anyone else actually run a UOA to back up the old rule of thumb?

People act like one bad piece of advice is going to ruin everything, but life's full of wrong turns. Chances are you'll forget about it in a week anyway. Is it really worth getting worked up over?
