Picked the $18 chrome dipstick over the $9 plastic one and my oil check just stopped lying to me
Honestly I almost grabbed the cheap one last month at the parts counter in Mesa because who cares about a dipstick. The plastic tip kept flexing in the tube on my old truck so I could never tell if the level was really at the line. Went with the metal one and the reading is dead clear every single time now, no guessing if it is a quarter inch low. What are you all running in older rigs, metal or plastic?

Did you notice the metal one stays straight when you pull it too, instead of curling back on itself? That flex is what messes with your reading more than anything, because the tip can drag oil up the tube and make it look fuller than it is. On my old 300 straight six the metal stick reads the same whether the engine is cold or been sitting hot for an hour, so I stopped second guessing it.
