Question about transmission rebuild costs: dealer vs independent shop
My 2005 Silverado's transmission went out on I-75 near Atlanta last Tuesday, and after getting quotes of $4,200 from the dealer and $2,800 from a local shop called Jim's Transmissions, I went with Jim's but the shift is rough now between 2nd and 3rd gear - has anyone else had problems after choosing the cheaper rebuild option?

Took mine back twice before they got it right, just be patient with 'em.

Yeah, bud of mine went through the same thing with @the_eric's advice, had to take his truck back three times.

Honestly, rough shifts after a rebuild usually mean they didn't adjust the bands right or the fluid level's off. I'd take it back to Jim's and have them check the line pressure, most shops will fix that for free if it's right after the rebuild.
