Showerthought: My manual transmission felt like an old friend until I drove a rental CVT last week

I spent 3 years daily driving a 5-speed Honda, then got a Nissan Versa loaner when my car was in the shop. The whole time I was shifting with my left foot on the floor and it just felt wrong, made me realize how much I take clutch feel for granted. Anybody else get thrown off by a different transmission after years of one style?

Is it really that deep though?

@green.noah, it really is that deep for some of us. I drove a stick for 10 years before getting a rental with a CVT. What worked for me was just accepting that the car was a tool, not an experience. I stopped trying to drive it like my old car and just let the CVT do its thing. Focus on the radio or traffic instead of missing the clutch. After a few days I got used to it, but I definitely appreciated my manual a lot more when I got it back.
