Snapped a timing chain on my 2015 Ford Focus at 87k miles - was I supposed to replace it earlier?

I was cruising down I-35 in Austin when my engine just died. Towed it to a shop and the guy told me the timing chain snapped. He said most people don't know these newer chains have a service interval around 80k miles. Has anyone else dealt with early chain failure on these models?

@harpercampbell has a point, but 87k on a Ford chain is pushing it - the tensioners are weak.

80k service interval" is just another way they get you to pay for stuff you never needed before.

Getting a second opinion saved me from an unnecessary timing job on my own car.
