Swapped my automatic transmission fluid myself for the first time
I used to always take my 2005 Tacoma to the shop for transmission service. Cost me about $250 each time. Last month I finally bought a fluid pump from Amazon for $25 and did it in my driveway. The whole job took maybe 45 minutes and 4 quarts of fluid. Anyone else tried doing their own transmission fluid changes instead of paying a shop?

It's funny how once you try something yourself you realize most shop work is just scary looking, not actually hard. Same thing happened to me with changing my own brake pads last year, saved a ton and felt dumb for paying so long for something simple. Seems like a lot of things in life cost way more just because people are afraid to mess it up, when really you just need a little patience and a YouTube video.

120 bucks for a shop to do a 20-minute job and I'm supposed to believe it's rocket science? Right, because watching a 10-minute video and turning a few bolts is definitely brain surgery. I bet half those shops just watch the same YouTube tutorials we do, then charge us for pretending they're experts. Honestly, it's a little embarrassing how long I let someone talk me into paying for something I could've done in my driveway with a socket set and a little common sense. Isn't the real trick just getting people to believe it's harder than it actually is?
