Swapped my paper logbook for a $12 app and my gas mileage tracking finally makes sense
My old notebook had 8 months of fill-ups but I could never spot the trend, while the free Fuelio app on my phone showed me in one screen that my mileage drops 2 mpg every time I skip the tire pressure check, so has anyone else switched to tracking in an app and actually stuck with it?
That line about your mileage dropping 2 mpg every time you skip the tire pressure check really hit home for me. I had no clue low tires could steal gas like that until I started watching the numbers, and now I feel kind of dumb for all the months I ignored it. It's honestly a relief to hear someone else say the paper notebook never showed them the trend, because mine was the same way and I kept blaming myself for not being able to spot a pattern. There's something about seeing it all on one screen that finally makes it click, and knowing you actually stuck with the app gives me hope I will too. I'm only a few weeks in, but so far I've kept up with it, which is more than I can say for my notebook.
That bit about "kept blaming myself for not being able to spot a pattern" is the part that gets me, because a paper logbook basically hides the answer from you even when you fill it in right. @walker.julia once you see that tire pressure line on a graph, you start checking other stuff too, like whether your mpg tanks on short trips or when you're hauling a full trunk, and it becomes less about willpower and more about just wanting to know. I'm three months in and still logging every fill-up, which is way longer than any notebook ever lasted for me.
