That week in Denver when every shift felt cursed
Back in 2019 I was doing delivery routes in a beat up 2004 Ford Ranger. One week in March, three days in a row something went wrong with the gearbox. Monday the synchro on second gear started grinding so bad I had to skip it entirely. Wednesday the clutch pedal stuck halfway to the floor at a red light on Colfax. I sat there hoping nobody rear ended me while I pumped it with my foot. Friday the shifter knob literally came off in my hand at 45 mph on I-25. I had bare metal in my palm and no way to grab the next gear smoothly. I finished the route using pliers from my tool bag. That weekend I pulled the whole transmission out in my driveway with a buddy and we found the shift fork was bent. Cost me 180 bucks for a used one and two full days. Funny thing is that truck ran another 60,000 miles after that. Anyone else have a run of bad luck that turned out to be one simple part?
