Can we talk about how I wasted 6 months comparing brokers by price alone?
I used to think the cheapest quote was always the smart pick, so I booked a $650 carrier to move my Civic from Phoenix to Portland last spring. The car showed up 9 days late with a cracked mirror and the broker just said "not our problem, talk to the carrier." What tipped me off was a guy at a shop in Tempe who asked if I ever checked whether the broker was actually bonded, and I had no clue what that even meant. Now I read the FMCSA records before I even look at the number, and it has saved me from two sketchy setups since. Anyone else get burned before they started checking the paperwork first?
