My barber in Phoenix told me he ships 4 cars a year and just picks whoever answers the phone first
I laughed at first because this guy cuts hair for a living, what does he know. Then he broke it down: two cars for his kids at ASU, one for his mom moving back to Ohio, one he flipped from an auction in Mesa. He never compares rates once. He calls three places, takes the first real human, and books it. I've spent two weekends building a spreadsheet with 11 quotes for one move from Phoenix to Denver, and his system has never cost him more than $1,100 a car. He says the cheapest quote is the one that ghosts you on pickup day, and he's been burned exactly zero times. Now I'm wondering if my spreadsheet is just a hobby I dress up as saving money. Has anyone here actually gotten burned by a low quote, or does the first-call thing really work?
