Quotes I got in March ranged from $650 to $1,900 for the same route
People keep picking the cheapest bid without asking if the carrier is actually the broker's own truck, and I found that out when my $650 quote got handed off twice and my car sat in a Phoenix lot for 11 days, so has anyone else learned to ask that question before booking?

That Phoenix lot story is the whole problem in a nutshell. That $650 quote was never a real truck, it was a broker who sold your load to whoever would take the least. Ask if they own the truck before you pay a dime.
