Rant: my brother in law swears paying extra for enclosed shipping is a scam, and now I dont know what to think
He moved a 68 Chevelle from Phoenix to Charlotte last month for $1,100 open carrier. Zero damage. He keeps bringing it up at every family dinner like he won a prize. I quoted $2,400 enclosed for my car and felt like a sucker. But then I started asking around and two guys in my car club both got rock chips and a cracked mirror on open runs in the last year. One of them ate the repair cost himself because the carrier blamed the shipper. So now I am stuck thinking the extra grand is either smart insurance or straight up fear tax. Anyone here actually run the numbers on how often open transport goes wrong?
