Saw 7 empty car haulers parked at a truck stop outside Amarillo and asked a driver why
Pulled off I-40 last month for gas and counted 7 empty car haulers lined up behind the diner. Got talking to a driver named Ray who was hauling nothing back to Phoenix. He told me the rates going west were so low that week it was cheaper to deadhead home than sit and wait. He showed me an app with quotes ranging from $380 to $1,150 for the same run, all depending on which broker posted it. Made me wonder how much of my own quote was just timing. Anyone else talked to drivers about what the slow weeks actually look like?
