Vent: I changed my mind about haggling with auto shippers after one phone call
I used to book the first quote I got because I figured prices were all the same and haggling was a waste of time. Last Tuesday I got three quotes to move my Subaru from Austin to Phoenix and they ranged from $780 to $1,150 for the same open carrier. I called the $1,150 company back and just asked if they could do better, and the guy dropped it to $840 in about 30 seconds. Now I always get three quotes and ask the expensive ones to match, then confirm in writing they won't add a fuel surcharge later. Has anyone had a broker refuse to budge, or is that first number always soft?
