A vendor in Chicago talked me out of a $12k contract, now I check everything twice
I was on the phone last Tuesday with a logistics software rep about renewing our warehouse tracking system. He straight up told me we didn't need the premium tier because our shipment volume only justified the basic plan, maybe 3 fewer features we rarely touch. That saved us around $4,200 a year but more than that, it made me rethink how we buy services in general. I realized I've been trusting sales demos and glossy proposals for years without ever asking what we actually use or what the real cost drivers are. This guy had no reason to downsize us, his commission probably took a hit. Now I'm going back through our other contracts for payroll and CRM to see if we're overpaying for unused modules. Has anyone else had a vendor talk you out of spending more, and did you find other bloated bills because of it?

Man that is wild, what did the rep actually say when you asked him why he was steering you smaller?
