Our CRM migration went sideways after the vendor didn't mention the data limit
We switched to a new platform last month and lost 3 weeks of lead data because the old system capped exports at 500 records without telling us. How do you vet these companies for hidden limitations before signing?

Got a buddy who signed up for a fancy new sales tool and didn't find out until month two that it only stored 1,000 customer notes. By then he'd already moved all his team over and trained them. He ended up having to pay triple for a higher tier just to keep what he already had. Now he sends a list of specific questions to every vendor before signing anything, like "How many records can I export at once?" and "What happens when I hit that limit?" He also makes them put the answers in writing in the contract, not just in a sales email. It's a pain but he says it's saved him more than once since then.

Don't even get me started on those hidden limits. It's like they're banking on people not reading the fine print. Your buddy's smart to get everything in writing, though. Salespeople will tell you whatever you want to hear just to close the deal. Making them put it in the contract is the only way to hold them accountable. Shady stuff like that makes me wonder why so many companies think they can get away with it.

@charlies37 Nah, that stuff is standard. Just ask. They'll tell you if you push.
