Serious question, does cold emailing still work for B2B services or is it dead?
I had a conversation last month with a guy at a conference in Chicago. He runs a small marketing agency and swore up and down that cold emailing got him his three biggest clients last year. Said he spends hours crafting each one, keeps it short, and always asks for a quick call. Then I talked to another business owner at the same event who said he deleted every cold email he got and thought it was spam. So here I am stuck. I run a B2B consulting service and I'm trying to figure out where to put my effort. Has anyone here had real luck with cold emails recently, or is it all just noise now?

Have you considered that the difference might be in who they're sending TO? The first guy is probably researching his prospects hard and only emailing people who actually match his service. The second guy just gets generic crap that clearly was blasted to 500 people. I've seen this play out in my own networking group where the guys who hand pick 10 people a week get responses, but the ones using automation tools get ignored. It's not the method that's dead, it's the lazy approach that ruins it for everyone.

Damn @wader71 you just changed my mind, I always thought it was the method not the targeting.
