That Salesforce consultant in Chicago charged me $250/hr and couldn't even run a basic report.

Met this guy at a networking event back in March. He was talking up his CRM optimization skills, sounded legit. Hired him for a 10 hour block to fix our lead tracking. First thing I asked was to pull a report of Q1 leads by source. Dude stared at the screen for 20 minutes, then said "the system doesn't do that." I showed him the button in 30 seconds. Charged me for the full hour. Has anyone else run into "experts" who can't even do entry level stuff?

Play the other side here for a second. You hired someone at $250 an hour who you met at a networking event, not a vetting process, so maybe you got what you paid for speed-wise. A guy who can talk big at a mixer might not have the hands-on skills, but that's more on you for skipping the real interview and just trusting a handshake. Cut the hourly rate and do a quick test project next time to filter the YouTubers from the actual workers.

Isn't it wild how many "experts" are just folks who watched a few YouTube videos and called it a day... feels like that's happening everywhere now, from car mechanics to plumbers.
