Took me 5 months to fire a software vendor that was bleeding us $2k a month
Nobody warns you that the hardest part of dumping a bad B2B vendor is the 60 day notice buried in the contract and the "account manager" who suddenly calls every day. I spent 5 months and probably 40 hours jump through cancellation hoops for a tool my team quit using in March. Anyone got a checklist they run before signing the next one so this never happens again?
I always figured the notice period was just a formality, like who actually enforces that stuff, right? Then a buddy of mine got stuck paying for six extra months on a scheduling tool his crew stopped touching in the fall. The part that got me was the auto-renew clause. It renews unless you cancel in writing inside a specific window, miss it and you are locked in another year. Now I read every contract out loud before I sign, and I write the cancel-by date on my wall calendar the day I sign it. Sounds dumb but it saved me once already. That 60 day thing is real and they will absolutely hold you to it.
