Wasted 2 years sending blanket proposals before I figured out the problem
Ngl, I used to send the same generic proposal to every single B2B lead that came in. Thought I was being efficient by saving time on customizing them. Then one client straight up told me 'your pitch felt like a copy paste job' and I realized they were right. I went back and looked at my numbers and only 3 out of 47 proposals had even gotten a response. Started tailoring each one to the client's specific pain points and my close rate jumped to about 1 in 5 within 3 months. Anyone else make this mistake or was it just me?

Man that's rough. I spent like 6 months sending proposals with the wrong company name in the header before I caught it.

Only 3 responses out of 47? That's brutal.

Yeah that's a rough hit rate for sure. When I was job hunting a few years back I had a similar ratio until I changed up my approach. What really made the difference for me was tailoring each resume to the specific job posting instead of just blasting out the same one over and over. Also kept my cover letter short and direct, like three paragraphs max. Maybe try focusing on quality over quantity for the next batch.
