A hiker I met on the Lost Coast Trail told me my pack looked way too heavy for my frame, so he showed me how to ditch 8 pounds of stuff I didn't actually need.
Has anyone else had a random trail angel totally fix a gear mistake you didn't even know you were making?

Honestly, the opposite. Got "helped" by a guy who insisted my rain shell was overkill for a desert hike. Drenched my down sleeping bag in a freak storm that night. Some angels are just confident fools. Now I trust my own research over any random's quick take. That lesson was heavier than any gear I ever carried.

Man that sounds rough but maybe it's not that deep? Like @amy_martin you still had the shell, just didn't put it on your pack. I mean trusting your gut is key but one bad tip from a random guy doesn't mean all trail advice is junk. Sometimes people are just trying to help, even if they're wrong.

Right? My tent poles got left behind once.
